One of the most popular stops in Interlaken is Harder Kulm, mostly due to its convenience and stunning views. No trains required- just head a little past Höhematte Park and you’ll find yourself at the Harderbahn. There are two main options to summit- the ever popular funicular or just plain old hiking. Wanting the best of both worlds, we chose to take the funicular up and enjoy the slightly less intense hike down. Funicular tickets are able to be purchased at the station (50% off with a Swiss Pass!), or you can buy a boarding pass to skip the queue.

It’s a quick trip to the top of the mountain where we were greeted with a stunning view of Interlaken and the lakes that give the town its name. The panoramic view from the overlook is very nearly the same view visible while paragliding – though without the same adrenaline rush for those who are perfectly content to keep their feet firmly on the ground. Visible from nearly all points in Interlaken, the Harder Kulm Panorama Restaurant is a perfect location to have a meal with a view.

Even without the struggle of hiking up a 2,500ft incline, the trail down still took about an hour compared to the funicular’s ten minute ascent so make sure you take your schedule into account when deciding your method of travel!
