If you’re looking for the best place to stay in Eleuthera, look no further than the Solar Bungalow!
This cute little one bedroom just outside of Governor’s Harbor sleeps four and is the perfect option for first time visitors to Eleuthera- and those coming back time and time again!
Full disclosure- I was invited to stay and check out Eleuthera by the Solar Bungalow. I was not charged for my stay at the Bungalow in exchange for this honest review of my stay, and all opinions are my own.
The Location
The Solar Bungalow is positioned conveniently between Governor’s Harbor Airport and Governor’s Harbor settlement, making it easy to stop by one of Eleuthera’s largest settlements for groceries or a meal at a local restaurant.
With Governor’s Harbor being just about at the halfway point of Eleuthera, the Bungalow is also the perfect launching point for exploring either side of the island. Check out my guides for exploring Eleuthera here!
The Solar Bungalow is less than a ten minute drive from some of the most stunning beaches in the world.
As with most Eleutheran accommodation, a car is necessary, and the Bungalow has a dedicated parking spot for its visitors.
The Solar Bungalow is located close to the water on the Atlantic side. Visitors can access the water with a short walk down a local road, but keep in mind that it’s not exactly a swimmable shoreline.
The flat, rocky area is more often used as a launching point for kayaks provided by the bungalow!
The Bungalow
The Solar Bungalow is a one bedroom, one bathroom private bungalow located on a beautiful hillside property with views of the Atlantic Ocean.
A comfortable king size bed is suitable for most visitors, but the day bed in the lounge is also a trundle bed able to fit two more guests- perfect for families traveling with kids!
The Solar Bungalow does have air conditioning, which was definitely a relief after a long hot day at the beach.
I cannot emphasize enough that this was the most stocked airbnb I have ever stayed in. From sunscreen to baby powder to Advil to spare toothbrushes- literally anything I could have possibly forgotten to pack was already stocked in the Bungalow.

Although the Solar Bungalow shares its property with the main house at this location, it’s a completely detached building with its own dedicated access.
There are five cats that live on property, and while they don’t live in the Bungalow, I found that we were greeted every morning and every evening by at least two of the resident kitties. Definitely a perk for me!
The Solar
As you may have guessed by the name, the solar power at this Bungalow is a huge draw for visitors. Eleuthera is an outer island of the Bahamas, and it’s known for its regular power outages. There was an island-wide black out for nearly a week before my arrival!
At the Solar Bungalow, this is never something that visitors have to worry about. The property has three dedicated lines of power- the main island grid, the solar power as the main backup, and even a generator if it’s been particularly cloudy.
Between these backups and the Bungalow’s Starlink internet access, you’d be able to access the internet no matter what’s happening!
Crucially, this also means that the air-conditioning is always available!
The Solar Bungalow is perfect for digital nomads looking to work from home in a slightly more remote location.
The Hosts
Even with all of the benefits of the Solar Bungalow, I would say that its biggest perk are its hosts!
Shannon and Bruce were phenomenal hosts during my stay at their Airbnb. We were welcomed with drinks on their gorgeous balcony, where they regaled us with suggestions as how to best see the island during our stay.
They even helped arrange my car rental for my stay on the island!
You can tell that they really love Eleuthera and that they delight in introducing new visitors to their favorite place.
They really go above and beyond when it comes to making their guests feel welcome.
It felt like we woke up every morning to some gift from Shannon and Bruce on our patio table. I quickly became obsessed with the fresh passion fruit Shannon would leave us- fresh off the vine of her own passion fruit plant and I’m still thinking of the breadfruit salad made from their own breadfruit tree!
Shannon even physically guided us to our first visit to French Leave Beach- it ended up being my favorite beach on the island, and one I definitely wouldn’t have made it to without her guidance.
If the weather is nice on your trip, Bruce may even offer to sail you around the island for a bit. Say yes! It was one of my favorite activities of the trip!
Going above and beyond is kind of an understatement for these guys.
