Hotel Review: Cologne- CityClass Hotel am Dom

On the hunt for a nice, but budget friendly hotel to stay in, I found CityClass Hotel am Dom, just about a block away from my previous hotel– and thus just as conveniently located to Cologne’s Cathedral.

I was staying in a Single Superior Room and man, when they say the room is for a single guest, they mean it!

The room consisted of a single bed, a narrow desk and a surprisingly roomy bathroom- and not much else!

The bedding was comfortable and the room was clean and bright with a big window that helped make the room seem larger.

Capacity was extremely limited, but the room seemed relatively modern and the furnishings were economical in the restricted space.

As a single visitor, I was fine in the room for a few short days, but did spend a decent amount of time tripping over my luggage while trying to get around.

I did run into a bit of an issue while checking in that deserves a mention; I arrived too early to check in and so stowed my luggage and got breakfast. When I returned, I was told that my room was ready for me and happily accepted, only to find out that the front desk had charged my card extra for an early check in!

Since this extra charge was never disclosed nor signed for, I headed straight back to the desk to make a complaint and get my early check in refunded! The refund went through without an issue, and the agents at the desk were very nice about it, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

This hotel is a great price for such a prime location, but for those looking to splash out a little (perhaps literally), check out Hotel Mondial am Dom for a little more space.

  1. The size of your hotel room in Cologne looks very similar to that of what I had during my most-recent trip to London– despite being a fairly-small person, I still felt the room to be absolutely cramped and also had issues with storing my luggage in it! All the same, it looks like your hotel in Cologne did the trick for the time you stayed in the city– it did the trick!

    1. Yes, exactly! How much time do you really spend in your room when you’re traveling anyway?
