Conveniently located just steps away from Cologne’s famous Cathedral, Hotel Mondial am Dom could not be in a better location.
The hotel is modern and elegant, with a marble lobby accented by led lights, greenery, and comfortable seats.
I was impressed by their swift check in- and also by the free postcards on offer in the lobby. I know that the postcards are really just advertisements for the hotel, but it always gets my little budget-friendly ears perking up.

Our room was a classic twin room, which was fairly spacious and made to look more so with its light wood flooring and bright windows.
Despite the twin bed request, the two beds were pushed closely together, as is common throughout Europe, but they were comfortable and the bedding felt new.
My one complaint with this hotel is what I like to call its “sexy shower”. I truly don’t understand the growing popularity with adding a see through wall to a shower in a hotel room but this is becoming a regular occurrence! Initially, we thought that there was a curtain or a painting that could slide in place for more privacy, but finding nothing, my companion and I resolved to either face the other way or leave the room while the other was showering.

There is a parking garage located just across the street from the hotel, which made depositing our car a breeze. This garage also has a women’s only section- a policy common throughout Germany that allows women space to park closest to the exit or in well-lit sections for their safety. I always appreciate the Frauenparkplätze!
Once the car was parked, we didn’t have to touch it for the rest of our visit, as the hotel is helpfully located within walking distance to many of Cologne’s main attractions as well as it’s train station.
