Hotel Review- Glasgow: Point A Hotel Glasgow

I wasn’t expecting much out of my visit to Glasgow- I’d scheduled so many lengthy day tours out of the city that I wasn’t expecting to spend much time in a hotel.

With that in mind, I went for the inexpensive Point A Hotel Glasgow, and was delighted by my experience.

The hotel is about a ten minute walk from Glasgow Central Train station- which made my life easier given I was lugging both a roller case and a backpack with me.

Point A is fantastically positioned not only so close to the main train station, but equally close to the bus station where most of the day trips depart out of, and just two blocks away from the popular Buchanan Street. It made it easy to maximize my time in the city on such a short visit.

The hotel lobby was clean and modern, with a tea station arranged behind the check in desk, and water freely available for guests. The hotel staff was a delight to chat with and they offered me a ton of suggestions for unique things to do around the city, and they’d often ask me about my day when I returned to the hotel. They really made me feel special!

I was also pleasantly surprised to be able to check in right away since I arrived nearly three hours prior to the hotel’s check in time.

The room itself was furnished sparingly, but it did have a large comfortable bed tucked into a nook with a huge mirror, a fold out chair and a hair dryer, so I was pretty set.

The room had a modern art sort of vibe with bright pops of color and almost cartoonish looking furnishings. It of reminded me of a children’s doctors office at first, but then I discovered that the LED lighting throughout the room could be changed to my preference and even set to strobe. I don’t know if that made it less childish, exactly, but I got a kick out of having a little solo rave in there.

I found the temperature controls to be very responsive as well- which was nice since the weather varied pretty drastically on my trip. I had air-conditioning on one day and the heat on for the next!

The walls were a little scuffed up by the side of the bed, but that issue would more likely be solved with a fresh coat of paint than a scrubbing.

As planned, I didn’t spend too much time in the hotel itself but I did swing past their comfortable looking lounge where they serve continental breakfast. I’d opted for the room-only rate, but it’s nice to know that it was available if I was hungry!

For a 3-star hotel, I was very pleased with the Point A Hotel! Its premium location and modern rooms at such a low price made it one of my favorite hotels of the trip and I’d highly recommend checking it out if you’re staying in the city!

  1. Nice hotel review! I Couchsurfed/stayed in a hostel while in Glasgow years ago, so anything above that is a huge upgrade! The strobe lights are a fun part of the hotel room; I think it’d be fun to turn on some EDM and just let those lights go! Thanks for sharing your review with us!

    1. I love a good hostel, but on this trip I was definitely happy to have my own room. Just the size of that bed was a lovely treat!

  2. I am glad you had a great stay. I’ve been to Glasgow many times, but never stayed the night as I mostly arrived for a day trip from Edinburgh or simply travelled through the city to other destinations. Whenever I book a hotel I always prefer to be within walking distance of all major attractions and with the whole of the city on my doorstep – it looks like Point A Hotel fits the bill! I love your main photo of the traffic-coned Glasgow statue that inspired Banksy. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. I was surprised by how much I liked Glasgow! I wish I’d spent another day there- but at least I’ll know where to stay on my return.

      1. I loved Glasgow, too 😊🥰There’s so much to see and do. Even after a couple of visits, I haven’t managed to explore it all and that’s why I’m planning another trip 🥰🥰

      2. Yesssss- I had the best time exploring, even with my limited time in the city.

  3. Good review! Well shared 💐

  4. […] I can never leave a city without visiting at least one museum, can I? Both the Kelvingrove and Burrell Collection came highly recommended, but I ultimately decided to visit the Kelvingrove since it was walking distance from my hotel. […]
