Hotel Review- The Rubens at the Palace: London

Looking for a way to treat yourself on your next visit to London? Look no farther than a stay at The Rubens at the Palace.

The Rubens at the Palace is a historic 5-star hotel located just behind Buckingham Palace (hence the name), and actually overlooks the Royal Mews.

I’ve mentioned a few other London hotels suitable for visitors on a budget, but The Rubens are definitely worth the cost if you’re looking to treat yourself. There are even red-jacketed doormen who greet you as you enter and help with your bags!

We visited around the holidays and the hotel was totally decked out for Christmas with decorations all over.

We stayed in a Classic Double room, which was quite small but had comfortable twin beds (with space in between!) and the water pressure in the shower was lovely. The room was a great combination of classic decor with a modern twist. There was even a nightly turn-down service, which made me feel a little spoiled!

Our booking had breakfast included, and it was served in the pretty English Grill. There was a selection of cold food to choose from in a buffet, and waitstaff would come around to take orders for a hot breakfast as well.

In addition to the English Grill- which also serves lunch and dinner- the hotel offers an Indian restaurant, two bars, and two lounges; one of which is reserved for private events. The most popular of these areas is the Palace Lounge, which serves afternoon tea looking out over the Royal Mews with panoramic windows.

The Rubens also takes advantage of its convenient location to St James Park by offering picnic baskets to take out on nice days!

While the hotel obviously emphasizes the fact that it’s only a stone’s throw away from Buckingham Palace, its excellent location cannot be overstated. It’s also just minutes away from Victoria Station, fifteen minutes from Westminster Abbey, and 20 minute from Big Ben. During the winter, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is 25 minutes away by foot, which helps avoid some of the insane crowds on the Underground!

Unfortunately, I visited this hotel towards the end of a long trip and I didn’t seem to take any photos of it! I’m as surprised as you. You’ll just have to use your imagination (and Google)!

Staying at this hotel was a really lovely treat and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to spoil themselves on a visit to London!

  1. I did a quick Google search of The Rubens at the Palace, and it looks absolutely swanky! Photos or not, it sounds like you enjoyed your stay there, all the while being right in the heart of London!

    1. Such a bummer I didn’t take pictures myself- how unlike me! Still, it was too nice of a hotel not to review!

Definitely worth the splurge, especially around the holidays.
