Hotel Review- New York City: Hotel Indigo Lower East Side

Being from New York myself, I very rarely have the opportunity to experience a New York City hotel.

Recently, I was able to stay overnight in Hotel Indigo Lower East Side and I seized the chance with both hands.

Longtime readers may have noticed that I’m a pretty big fan of the Hotel Indigo brand. Although part of the larger IHG hotel chain, Hotel Indigos are boutique style hotels that model themselves after the spirit of the city they’re built in.

Hotel Indigo Lower East Side is inspired by the street art of New York City. The open brick lobby features a one-of-a-kind mural by the graffiti artist Lee Quinones. Lee’s work has been featured in museums worldwide, including an exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York!

This hotel also hosts the famous Mr. Purple rooftop bar with sprawling views of the city skyline, plus an outdoor pool in the summertime.

Just below Mr. Purple, the newly opened Club offers a more party-centric environment.

The circumstances of my hotel stay lead me to booking my room pretty late on the day I was due to check into the hotel. Since it was so late and only for one night, I was given a complimentary room upgrade and ended up with a City View Suite.

My jaw dropped when I got to my room- I think it was bigger than some NYC apartments!

One side of the room was occupied by a huge king bed, while the other had a whole couch and TV set up. Windows lined one wall floor to ceiling.

My favorite part of the whole room was the enormous balcony furnished with chairs and a table. I may be from here, but you best believe I was out there taking as many photos as I could! I’m a sucker for a good view!

It was unfortunately a bit cloudy, so I wasn’t able to see much of the Freedom Tower that night, and waking up for sunrise didn’t help much either- and I had to check out before the fog cleared. I’ll just use my imagination.

I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel, but it should be mentioned that floors close to the Club should be avoided. Based on the reports from my friends, the soundproofing from the Club isn’t the best and it can be pretty loud in the surrounding area. Best to avoid the 14th floor if possible.

Although I didn’t have the opportunity to check it out, I noted that Hotel Indigo Lower East Side offers American Cuisine at Mr. Purple and is located just a short walk away from the NYC institution Katz’s Deli.

  1. That is a spacious room! My parents and friends have stayed in some Hotel Indigos in Fidi and have always had a great stay.

    1. That’s the nice thing about chains- they’re everywhere! I’ve stayed in a Hotel Indigo in Brussels and in DC and really enjoyed them both! Happy to add this one into the mix 🙂

  2. It’s unheard of to have a spacious room in NYC, let alone in a hotel! Hotel Indigo Lower East Side looks like the perfect place to stay in town, especially for those iconic skyline views. It’s interesting to stay in NYC while being from New York (idk NYC proper), as I would find it strange to stay in a hotel in LA while living in LA…all the same, it sounds like a fun experience worth trying! Thanks for sharing yours.

    1. I feel like being so involved in travel, people always ask me where to stay in New York- and I have no idea. This was a great start, though! Those views- seriously!
